On the way to Dades Gorge

Hi Everybody,

we just left our wonderfull hotel in the desert directly next to the dunes and are now travelling to the Dades Gorge which is in the mountains.
It was like last time when I was in the desert in Chile – it rained!!! It rained that much that cars could hardly cross the streets at some points of the road. But we were lucky and at the time we stayed at the hotel – as most of the time the only guests – it only rained at night. We decided not to take the very touristic camel tour and just did this tour to the highest dune by ourselves. The nightcamps for the camel tour were just behind it so we did not want to do this tour again by camel. The red dunes and the silence were awesome! We hope to attach some pictures soon – I know I promised before but this PC still has floppy instead of a card reader. We are both still fine and hope the same for you. all the best

Chefchaouen

Hi,
We just arrived 2 days ago in Chefchaouen. It is a small city in the north of the country at the beginning of the Rif mountains. The town is pretty calm and not pretty full. We did not know that this city is one of the Mekkas for hippies and new alternatives. But the kif they grow here and the relaxed mood seems to attract them
The city is located in the mountais and from the terrace on the roof you have a wonderful view. The hostel also has a communal kitchen which gave us the possibility to take a break from morocan dishes and have some noodels.
We wanted to do some hiking but unfortunately we picked up some bedbugs which really affect our daily life (it itches horrible). So we will stay here two more nights relaxing from the city run which lies behind us and then we will head towards the desert.
We hope to upload some new pictures soon but actually there is no cardreader far and wide. Best wishes from Merzouga

Marrakech Casablanca Rabat Meknes

Hi again,

today is some time to give you an update and not only some pictures. unfortunately i forgot my usb stick to upload more pictures – i hope to do that in the next days.
after leaving busy marrakech we went to casablanca. marrakech is a really nice town with a huge medina where you get lost easily. but the friendly morocans always guide you your way. but the whole city is pretty touristic. everywhere are shops who sell more or less the same – but no! we did not buy a thing which was especially hard for the small m but i promised her that we will buy a lot of things as soon as we stop travelling around.
we headed to casablanca which is a strange city. it is a lot bigger then marrakech but there is more or less no tourism. but it hast the third largest mosque in the word. a stunning piece of architecture (see the picture I already uploaded). it does not fit in the dirty city but they are working on a whole new harbour and nearly shopping centres etc. we went to the mosque three times. first in the afternoon, then in the evening and at the next morning for a guided tour inside. the most impressive visit was the second. we went there for the evening prayer. the mosque fits around 20.000 people on the inside and 80.000 at the outside and is with direct view on the ocean. we think that about 40.000 people visited the prayer.
we moved to rabat, the capital, which is a really modern city. they start to build up a tram which might be more or less unique in northern africa. after that short trip we arrived in meknes today. which is also one of the king-cities. we will complete the four of them on saturday when we will take the train to Fez.
we are having a good time here. our legs are hurting from the kilometres we make everyday while sightseeing. the first SD card of the camera ist almost full

Leaving

we are pretty close on leaving the country
Mara is still working on her university things and I am waiting for her to finish it. We packed today what still seems to be a bit tricky. Ryanair only allows 15 kilos and one piece of luggage. But we will make it
Our plane leaves tomorrow in the afternoon.
